  • The Student Ambassador Program has shown remarkable success in facilitating the integration and support of incoming students. This program cultivates a sense of a welcoming atmosphere among peers, particularly within the second through eighth-grade student population.

This program allows new students to integrate, feel embraced, and thrive. Serving as a student ambassador also provides students with a platform to enhance their leadership and communication abilities, inspiring others to represent their school actively.

The primary aim of the Student Ambassador Program is to ease the transition for all new students, whether they come from military or civilian backgrounds. In essence, the program strives to alleviate the concerns of incoming students and foster connections between military-connected students and newcomers by encouraging the exchange of experiences, strengths, and challenges.

  • Sunrise celebrated our veterans during our Veterans Day assembly on November 8, 2024. Our veterans were honored during this assembly with an honor guard, thoughtful speeches by students, and our choir beautifully singing songs that highlighted the sacrifices our veterans and families have endured to serve our country. Further, students and staff are honoring our veterans by posting their pictures on a bulletin board in our office for the month of November. Stay tuned for our future events, including honoring our military children in April 2025.

A bulletin board displays photos honoring veterans from various branches of the military.

  • Military Family Life Counselors, funded by the Department of Defense, may serve schools with many active-duty dependent students. With parent permission, they provide free, confidential individual and group counseling to children and families to address the impacts of military life. They do not keep records of counseling. They also may provide education and coaching to teachers and staff.

We encourage our active-duty military families to learn more about the program or schedule an appointment with your school’s MFLC by contacting District One’s Military-Connected Advocate, Sandra Carbajal, (928) 502-4397.

  • We make registration easy! Online registration is now available, or you may complete the paperwork at the school office. We invite parents to visit the Yuma School District One website for more information, to download forms, or to register online.
